Diddy, Dr.Dre & Jimmy Iovine Speak On Diddy Beats, Diddy Speaks On Dr.Dr...

I don't like promoting products on my site but it's a rare occassion to get 3 of the most powerful people in hip hop on screen at one time. Jimmy Iovine, in case you're unaware is chairman of Interscope records which is the umbrella label behind Dr Dre, Diddy, Lil Wayne, Timbaland, Black Eyed Peas and whole load more!

Here they speak On Diddy Beats (the headphones), Diddy Speaks On Dr.Dre's Influence and Dre jus keeps it straight GANGSTA.

Have you ever heard a more DJ Premier sounding track?

'Power Struggle' is a Californian group consisting of rapper Nomi accompanied by producers Mister REY and Fatgums. They sent me this track called 'What goes up' which is hot in it's own right, but the production couldn't be more similar to a trademark Premo beat, including the vocal samples dropped in! Take a listen and let me know what you think!

Nas & Damian Marley Move 57K Units In Week One

After hip-hop’s disappointing presence on The Billboard 200 last week, new releases by Nas and Damiam Marley and Reflecion Eternal gave a much needed boost to the genre today (May 26).

The Queensbridge MC and the Jamaican reggae singer’s collaborative album, Distant Relatives, debuted at No. 5, bringing rap music back into Billboard’s Top 10 for the first time in three weeks. God’s Son and Bob’s Son sold an impressive 57,300 according to the Nielsen SoundScan.

Atlanta sensation B.o.B. landed nine spots down at No. 14. The Adventures of Bobby Ray, pulled in an additional 22,700 units this go-round and after a month on the charts, the 2009 XXLFreshman has a total sales figure of 170,500.

Talib Kweli and DJ Hi-Tek’s new Reflection Eternal album, Revolutions Per Minute, picked up the No. 18 spot. Fans bagged up 20,900 copies of the duo’s sophomore effort in its introductory week in stores.

The Black Eyed Peas slipped three slots to No. 23. The E.N.D. still managed to add 17,300 units to its overall tally, which now stands at 2,534,900.

Ludacris also fell a couple of positions to No. 31, rounding out the Top 40. Battle of the Sexes, was purchased 12,600 times in the last seven days, making its 11-week total 417,500.

Look for Nas and B.o.B. to duke it out for top hip-hop spot on the charts next week.

Video: Kano - "Get Wild" ft Aidonia x Wiley (Jamaica To UK World Premiere)

Kano brings Wiley and dancehall artist Aidonia on this track with nutty production by 'Boys Noize'. The video's also really hot, I like the way it starts off on Westwood's show and gets a pull up which is where the actual video begins... Look out for his forthcoming fourth LP, 'Method To The Maadness'!

From GrimeForum: The news was going to be that Scrufizzer is hanging up the mic and giving up the grime production. Although as a lot of grime fans will be thankful to hear, after talks with Universal today, it looks like he will be reconsidering his plans. Not everyone may have caught all the work Scrufizzer has been putting in so far in 2010 doing Stage shows with DJ Cameo and other live events, recording, producing and putting in the hard work. We really enjoyed this release he’s put out, so download and check it out.

M.I.A: "I Don't Wanna Say Jay-Z Sold Out, But..."

M.I.A. has shared her thoughts on the difference between Jay-Z and Nas in a recent interview.

The rapper/singer explained that both of the rap stars took different routes to success.

She told Complex Magazine: "Jay became the biggest representation of rap music who's still alive, started dating Beyoncé, everything was so much bigger and better with Jay-Z. I hope people don't think that that wins.

"The fact that Nas didn't become all this sort of stuff changes people's perception about the music and the work he achieved in his lifetime. I don't wanna say Jay-Z sold out, but I just feel like we have to wait another 10 years to see what happens.

“Jay-Z's ambition was to become like Frank Sinatra, a household name all over the planet, and own a casino in Vegas and stuff like that. And I think Nas was really sticking to knowledge. I still think the biggest point about hip-hop is in there somewhere, what happens to those two artists."

Source: MTV

Got to say I agree with MIA here, and despite the fact that Jay-Z has outplayed Nas over the last few years ((and even signed him which may appear as a personal 1-up), Nas will always remain superior in my honest opinion. Don't get me wrong, Jay is an EPIC artist that will go down in history but Nas brought a higher level of consciousness as an MC with tunes such as 'Poison' and 'I know I can' (plus countless more)...

Audio: Sean Price - Let Me Tell You (Produced by Beat Butcha)

This joint is absolutely nuts, and I was almost certainly planning on posting this, until I heard it was produced by the UK's very own Beat Butcha which meant there was no option but to share it with you. Beardyman Presents: The Freestyle Project at Udderbelly

The Freestyle Project

Monday 7th June 2010 @ Udderbelly, Southbank Centre.
£14 (Concessions £11) 8:30pm 10:00pm.
Box office: 0871 663 2538

The infamous, brain-conquering, beatbox sensation Beardyman has gathered together a collective of some the UK's greatest lyrical free stylers for a one-night-only freestyle music event, the likes of which hasn't been seen in this dimension since the dawn of time.

Aided by 2007 UK DMC champion JFB on decks, 'J'm Black on guitar and Mr Hopkinson on live visuals, this is a rap music ouija-board led by nothing but the thoughts in the room and loosely held together by Beardyman at his spaceship-come-loop-station and his lyrical spirit guides - Stig of The Dump, Dr Syntax, Dizraeli, Klumzy Tung, and LeeN.

Tempa T brings the 'Hypest Hype' to Radio 1's Big Weekend in Bangor

So the BBC bring Tempa T and DJ Magic (No hats no hoods/Dirty Canvas) thru to their 'introducing' stage at the Big Weekend in Bangor and perform 'Hypest Hype' produced by beatmaking juggernauts Chase & Status. I will admit that was the 1st time I'd heard the track but the combination of the 2 acts was destined to work. It's undoubtedly positive how the BBC brought Tempz thru when they could've gone for a safer option (ie. someone with perhaps less "threatening" content) but thankfully the mainstram audience finally get an accurate view of grime in 2010.

Audio: Black Einstein feat.Mystro & Kyza - Steppin'

Video: SLIX Ft TINCHY STRYDER AND SWAY - "I BALL"

REAL strong track here from some of the biggest talents in the UK grime and hip hop scenes. Great production and the 3 MCs seem to work together very comfortably...

Metro Article: Grime scene is in rude health

Article from today's Metro newspaper about the crucial contribution to the grime scene from it's producers. Article can be found here.

"An array of bright young pretenders has been joining forces with established talent, which is giving the scene unstoppable momentum.

Ghetts’s Calm Before The Storm mixtape (360) sees the popular Plaistow MC leave behind the ultra-violence of 2008’s Freedom Of Speech. His bristling intensity survives and he has honed punchlines through ‘clashes’ (in grime terms his recent battles with P Money were as big news as the general election). Ghetts has matured and his tracks analyse keeping it ‘grime’ and making no money versus mainstream progress, while My Sperm is a surreal putdown to imitators. The r’*’b chorus on We Control, featuring Devlin, hints at future possibilities. Ghetts’s USPs are his unhinged demeanour (live, he’s a sight to behold) and wince-inducing lyrics (he references suicide bombers and the Twin Towers here). As he finds his place in the glossy world of grime 2.0, let’s hope he doesn’t lose his edge.

Seventeen-year-old Maxsta is the latest prodigy on grime’s teen-MC production line: he’s been anointed by grime’s illuminati (Wiley, Ghetts, Terror Danjah and Bless Beats) and his music has featured on Logan Sama, Westwood and Mistajam’s radio shows. The Maxtape (Uptown) proves his lyrical mettle and versatility: Back To Grime calls out grime artists doing pop who ‘ain’t even got grime on their phone’. East London sees Maxsta proclaim his ‘bars are hotter than a Bunsen’, while The Reason is a radio/girl-friendly r’*’b jam. I Promise, a pledge to his mum that he’ll do his homework and prove himself, is cute but disconcerting if you’re old enough to vote. Once you get past Maxsta’s barely broken voice, you can see why he’s been tipped to ‘do a Tinchy’.

Despite grime’s MC-dominated image, the No Hats No Hoods label is fighting the producers’ corner by releasing Rude Kid’s instrumental-only Are You Ready? LP. Rude Kid’s own remix of his anthemic UFO brings together a jittery rhythm, jabbering short-circuiting effects and punishing bass; Dentist intersperses hi-NRG bassline house with analogue bleeps and taut synths; Jack Daniels melds whirring, breathless techno around a contorting tower of bass; the meditative Space Dance dissolves warm reggae chords into aqueous electronic melodies as a sub-bass behemoth pulsates beneath. Are You Ready?’s bold, other-worldly dubs are utterly compelling without an MC and proof that Rude Kid is more than ready to move onwards and upwards.

The affable Terror Danjah has been a top grime producer for years, so much so that electronica label Planet Mu released an essential retrospective, Gremlinz, late last year. Danjah recently posted a free Grime & Dubstep mix on Mixcloud (www.mixcloud.com/terrordanjah), showcasing forthcoming material and current bangers. Danjah’s What Would I Do sees Badness sing-jaying over lumbering bass; Slang Like This brings together Sukh Knight’s Bollywood-sampling dubstep and P Money’s lingo lesson. Danjah’s audio stamp (the sound of Gremlins cackling) crops up on Power Grid, while his remix of Swindles’ Airmiles combines funky Afrobeat with nose-twitching electro. This mix reflects the fluidity between dubstep and grime, and Danjah’s consistently agenda-setting productions, which you can also sample on Kode9’s Hyperdub label and at Glastonbury this summer."

Bangladesh: "Lil Wayne owes me half 'a milli' "

Lil Wayne's beef with some of the producers he's worked with is well-documented. Now, the Young Money head honcho can add the man who produced "A Milli" for him.

In a recent interview with VIBE, Bangladesh aired did not mince words about his former collaborator. "I don't fuck with [Lil Wayne]... and you can print that," said the producer. "Cash Money don’t pay royalties. The Carter III, [is] his biggest album probably because of 'A Millie.' [But] you have to sue these guys so that they pay up."

Bangladesh revealed that he is suing for an estimated $500,000 in owed royalty checks for the Grammy award-winning track. "It's [Wayne and Baby's] responsibility to pay [me] because all the money from album sales goes to Cash Money. I get checks from Sony for Beyonce, checks from different labels for different artists, it just comes to you. You don’t have to call them, sue them and all that junk. This is what you're owed."

"I don’t really give a fuck about [Wayne]," continued Bangladesh. "I can't give a fuck about somebody that don’t give a fuck about my situation, I have kids. In the hood, people get killed for ten dollars. I couldn’t imagine owing someone hundreds of thousands of dollars and just walking around in front of them. I'm so confident in myself, that I don’t need Lil Wayne. There's gonna be so many opportunities. I can create a Lil Wayne."

"This is why Manny Fresh don’t fuck with [Cash Money] because he never got any royalty money. That’s why Baby can go around flaunting this cash, because that’s everyone else’s money... It's not even Wayne's fault. Wayne is not getting money. He is given money, he's not getting money. If Baby gets a million dollars he’ll buy Wayne a [Rolls Royce] Phantom, but that’s in Cash Money's name. That 14-bedroom mansion isn’t Wayne shit," said the hit-maker, who echoed further sentiments to the royalty dispute.

Video: CD IS DEAD - JME & TEMPA T

Video: 9 Milli Major – Rude Boy Ting

Big track here from the Bloodline member. Strong production also from J Beatz, one of the elite amongst new school grime producers in my eyes. Without trying to make an obvious comparison, this does remind me slightly of 'Next Hype'! Has that energy.
