Video: SB.TV - Kings Of The City - Don't Go (Wretch 32 Cover)

Kings Of The City return with a brand new SB.TV video for their cover remix of Wretch 32's Don't Go ft Josh Kumra (original out 14th August). The band bring their unique blend of Blues Rock n Roll, Hip Hop and Grime together for a fresh rethink of the soon-to-be hit single. The track is taken from their forthcoming covers mixtape.

Video: Marques Toliver - Deep In My Heart

The soul singer jumps on Fords 'Bands in transit' at the Great Escape Festival in Brighton.... This is a great series showcasing some great emerging and established acts including the likes of Ed Sheeran. Whilst singing, Marques also plays his fiddle type stringed instrument (not sure exactly which one!) which adds a fresh approach. Definitely will be looking out for him in the future! Audio: CHEMO – THE STOMACH OF THE MOUNTAIN [sampler]

‘The Stomach of the Mountain’ is a compilation of the finest production and remix work from 2007-2011 from one of UK Hip Hop's most respect producer/engineers Chemo.

Featuring vocal talent from the likes of Jehst, Roots Manuva, Triple Darkness and even New York rap legend Tragedy Khadafi, the album contains both his trademark sound as well as a slight shift away from the purist Hip Hop that Chemo is known for. Check Chemoproductions.com for the full low-down, but it's released 26 September.

Check this video for an example of the sickness this album contains. This one featuring Phoenix Da Icefire, Logic, Rewd Adams, Cyrus Malachi, Skriblah, and M9!

Audio/download: CELLA DWELLAS - I PUT IT DOWN

The NYC duo consisting of UG & Phantasm (new names to me) drop this massive tune sampling fellow Brooklynites M.O.P. on the hook, with this banger produced by Nick Wiz. When tracks arrive in my email inbox, I can normally tell if they'll be really good or apalling by the artwork. On this my predictions were accurate. Follow the Cella Dwellas on Twitter.

Video: Sam Khan - So Many Dreams ft Miski & Desperado

Sick new video here, filmed in Cyprus for the title track off Sam Khan's new 7-track EP entitled "So Many Dreams" which is out on iTunes. Shout out to Nik Squared on the visuals! Liking the way that Sam has switched up his lyrics and style on this, almost taking an approach similar to Drake.
OG'z crew member Desperado joining the very promising Miski on this adds some valuable contributions.

Video: Sox sending for Kozzie & Tre Mission [Lord Of The Mics 3]

The Brum MC makes a few direct sends for some of the big hitters in the grime scene right now. His outfit's ridiculous but he's got bars and delivers them well.

Download: S-X – 5,000 Followers EP

Due to initially being championed by the grime scene, and now working on everything from dance records with Roll Deep to trap records with Cash Money CEO Birdman, S-X thought it was only right to thank his initial supporters by making his '5,000 Followers EP' strictly at 140bpm.

According to the S-X himself, I was the first to interview the 18 year old from Wolverhampton back in March 2010! Check it here.

Dutty Lex drops his verse for the current competition with Devlin and Child Line to drop a verse. Feeling this, and Lex continues his consistent lyrical output.

Some good old fashioned drinking themed UK hip hop from Granville Sessions as they drop their video for 'Pubsteppin'' off the album 'No State' released through Trinity Music Brixton on 1st August 2011.

Video: Lyrican feat. Benny Banks - Going Crazy [SB.TV Video]

Manchester's best lyricist goes in with Benny Banks on this banger. Hopefully this will be Lyrican's year, the dude's been in the scene for a while now and has some strong content.

Video: DJ Khaled breaks down new album track-by-track

This sounds like it's going to be a HOT album. Khaled's a very smart guy and although his shouting get's a bit over to top these days the recent Young Money signee's got a talent at making great records. I bought his album Listennn... back in 2006 and that was straight fire so since then I've always checked out what he's been releasing. The track with Wocka Flocka and Ace Hood sounds like it's going to set the streets on fire!

Soulja Boy: The Movie - Official Trailer

Whether you like his music or not, you can't knock the success of one of the most controversial and successful artists of the digital era. Directed by Academy Award winner director Peter Spirer (Notorious B.I.G. Bigger than Life, Tupac Shakur: Thug Angel) this docu-movie shows the humble starts of the Mississippi rapper to from the hood to beyond hollywood!

Video: J2K- WTF (Electrik)

Dope new video from J2K who's bringing that futuristic upbeat grime for the clubs. Really liking the direction this song's taken and it's pretty original with a great hook from a girl called Kenzie May. The feel good summer jam is set to be released digitally on August 7th 2011, and August 22 sees the follow-up to the free EP 'Now Playing' getting a digitial release. Video: DMX' first interview and prayer fresh out of jail

Looking hyped up as the day he went in, DMX gave his first interview after being released from his seven-month stay in the pen. He also dropped his prayer-cum-rap in the way only he can do, for XXL Mag.

Look out for this prayer of his on his forthcoming record, which according to X won't be be released thru Rick Ross' Maybach Music Group as previously rumoured.

Video: ROW.D FREESTYLE

The north London MC and producer drops this latest sick freestyle for Good 2 Go Live TV! This is hard don't sleep on this guy. Follow on Twitter @ReviloRowD!

Video: Hopsin - Ill Mind Of Hopsin 4 (Disses Tyler The Creator)

Have been listening to this guy since May last year when I was sent a track of his called 'Mother Fu(ker' which also had a video drop a few months later.

Thankfully he's back with this banger one which is a very respectable/overdue diss track to Tyler, the Creator from the 'shocking' crew that clueless journalists compare to the Wu Tang Clan. OK he can rap but personally I reckon he's ripping off Rock from Heltah Skeltah who rhymes with Sean Price (and Boot Camp Click). Anyway, this is big and just because Hopsin sounds a bit like Eminem he's still got mad lyrics!

SONNYJIM - FLYING TO THE MOON (PRODUCED BY KELAKOVSKI)

Straight up boom bap Kelakovski production on this one which sees Birmingham underground MC doing what he does best - which comes like something off Duck Down records!

Video: Baby Blue - Play (produced by Donaeo)

The girl's made a massive come back over the last few months and is dropping hit after hit. This one's produced by Donae'o, feeling the bouncy vibe to this. Blue is currently working on her debut album featuring names like DJ Khalil & Davinche.

Crossover Episode 3 - FT - MZ Bratt & Smiler

1xtra's Charlie Sloth sends Mz Bratt and Smiler's tracks over to the USA to be reviewed by Joe Budden and producer/DJ Statik Selektah. Good to see an insight from 2 people that know a thing or two about making hits! Personally I preferred Smiler's one but I can understand what Joe Budden was saying..

Video: Chima Anya - Dont Mess With Mr T (Drunken Rant Pt II)

Inebriated thoughts of Chima Anya as he rhymes smoothly over this sample of a classic jazz joint - Stanley Turrentine - Don't Mess With Mr. T. UK Hip Hop heads will remember Loudmouth Melvin also sampled this on a track called 'Take My Advice' he made with Smasher a few years back. Big!

VIDEO: MC TIGZ - WAIT FOR THE CD [PROD BY SX]

One of the sickest grime tracks I've heard in a while as the Lewisham aka the Blue Borough resident goes hard with the delivery and flow over S-X's intense beat, which I'd expect to hear on a DJ Drama mixtape. Tigz relentlsly drops metaphors that are reminiscent of Wretch 32. A name to keep an eye on - look out for his count down EP which is dropping soon!

KidBookie and Desperado - Ok Then (Prod by FLAVA D)

Strong new grime track here with production for the producer who's repping for the ladies as the scene leading female beat maker! S/O to Kids Of Grime

Ok Then - BBC 1 Xtra Rip KidBookie and Desperado (Prod. Flava D) by KidsOfGrime

Video: Rival goes biscuit shopping

It's a major par as Tesco's is out of Custard Creams, but Malted Milk and Party Rings will have to make do, as Rival washes them down with some Mountain Dew.

Download his free EP 'Biscuits' here and check the video I filmed with himself and Kwam.

Rival and Kwam duppy one of Darq E Freaker's bangers out side the Kids of Grime party in Shoreditch a few months back ...

Video: Doller - Go Getters Clothing Advert Song)

Edmonton's Go Getter raps the advert for his new clothing label, over a beat which is so sick and from the sound of it can only assume it's from Z Dot who's had some of his best beats vocalled by the North London grime MC.

Video: Freestyle Fire - Flirta D sends for Kano

Flirta brings back an old school grime flow, with the recurring end-of-line bars as well as nutty sound effects! He also sends for Kano...

Video: SHAWTY LO SIGNS NEW LABEL DEAL WITH G-UNIT

This video's a a few weeks old but is pretty interesting for a couple of reasons. The former member of Atlanta 'snap music' crew D4L who had brief success with their track 'Laffy Taffy which hit no. 1 in Jan 2006. He's definitely playing on the whole "here's my ghetto as fuck background... This should make you respect my rapping skills" vibe!

Out of all the rappers at 50's disposal, I'm surprised it's someone that's had little solo success and is not exactly the top dog in the Atlanta scene. It seems G Unit's dominance is officially over, with crews such as Rick Ross' MMG, Wayne's Young Money, and Kanye's G.O.O.D Music all in the spotlight right now and despite 50's solo career still strong, Tony Yayo is the only guy doing much right now!

Video: GFAM - GANGSTERS (Produced By ZDot)

Random Impulse, Dimples and crew duppy this beat which is getting vocalled by all the sickest artists in grime right now! Good to Impulse back on grime with his crew...

Audio: QWOTE feat. RICK ROSS - I WANT YOU

Michael Jackson's classic 'Lady in my life' is brought back to life on this classy soulful banger from the Slip-N-Slide (Rick Ross previous label) R&B artist. As good as this track is, I sometimes feel a lot of  (the best) R&B artists like Chris Brown, Lloyd, Akon, Ne-Yo and Qwote on this one have been trying to out-do each other on sounding like the King of Pop. Never a bad thing to resemble him but some more originality would be nice. Still, this is a zoners!

Audio: Jimmy Astro & Reese Jones – The Incredibles

Sick new track I found on HypeTrak.com from Memphis-raised MC Jimmy Astro and Virginia Beach producer Reese Jones. Never previously heard of these up and coming artists, tho but they've joined forces to bring forth their first collaborative EP, appropriately titled Reese And Jimmy's Dope Adventure. As you may be able to tell from the name it was inspired by the 90s cult classic film "Bill And Ted's Awesome Adventure".

Jimmy Astro x Reese Jones - The Incredibles by Hypetrak

Audio/download: Lil Wayne - Sorry for the wait [mixtape]

With Tha Carter IV pushed back until August 29, Weezy makes up for it with an apology: Sorry 4 The Wait. The 12 track project sees him going to his mixtape roots, tackling all sorts of instrumentals from "Tupac Back" to "Gucci Gucci."

With features from Gudda Gudda, Lil B, Raw Dizzy and more, Tune may be sorry but we can't blame him. We should be thankful cos if this is what he's got as a free give-away I already know the album's a classic already!

His version of Drake's amazing 'Marvin's Room' just as impressive and sees Wayne in cheeky bars/'pussy monster' mode, make sure you check that!

Stream below or download it here

Audio/Download: Ball Greezy - A New Day [mixtape] and On My Way to The Money feat. Ace Hood, Brisco

Brand new mixtape from Miami artist who's being co-signed by Flo Rida. Don't get it twisted tho, this guy goes hard with a recognizable MIA flow and delivery. The scene out there is really healthy at the moment, with Ace Hood blowing up finally, as one of DJ Khaled's many assets in the hip hop.

This was my favourite track off the mixtape, and features Rick Ross' affiliate who's verse follows Ace Hood's. Hard to pick who's got the best bars on this, not that it matters they all smash it. Check the mixtape for some more insightful but hood content and soulful production.

Review: Frankophonik

As one of the most progressive nations in the world when it comes to music, France has a lot to shout about! Despite the language barrier that often holds them back from going international on vocalled tracks, the French have forged themselves a name as one of the leaders of Electro in its many forms. As well as that, there’s a thriving fan base and national music scene across many other genres like Reggae, grime, hip-hop, dubstep and more…

For anyone that’s been to the country or met a real fan from there, music is as much part of the French lifestyle as wine and cheese. To bridge the overly large gap between the anglo-french music divide there is a website called Francophonik, which allows you to discover and download a whole heap of new French music, as well as chat to other fans and they’re currently giving you the opportunity to win tickets for gigs and festivals and to share your French music discoveries.

A heavy weight competition currently running with Francophonik is giving you the chance to win tickets for the Rock en Seine Festival(The Seine is a famous river that runs through Paris), based just 10km from the capital. The three day festival from August 26 - 28 covers loads of different genres but in terms of hip-hop and grime there are some big name performances from Kid Cudi, Q Tip, Tinie Tempah and the crew that shot to fame in 2011; Odd Future (OFWGKTA).  I have already entered the competition via their facebook fan page. Having been to France a few times in recent years I know it’s going to be A LOT!

Video: Wretch 32 ft Josh Kumra - Don't Go

Wretch shows how to make classy hip hop and still hit the mainstream. Really feeling the production, chorus and lyrics, kind of similar to the vibe J Cole is on which is definitely a compliment. The single is out 14th August, can see this doing well!

Single review: DEAD PREZ – 'DEAD MAN'S SHOES'‏ [For MTV UK]

Here a recent single review I wrote for MTV Wrap Up for Dead Prez' new single 'Dead Man's Shoes', along with the audio at the bottom.

Dead Prez look like they've still got the fire in their belly to cook up this new afro-centric, reggae-inspired joint, which leaked recently...

Educating the more discerning and knowledge-hungry fans of hip-hop, M-1 and Stic Man have released a number of great mixtapes and albums, predominantly based around Black Panther socialism, which is combined with a healthy supply of boom bap, 'true-school' hip-hop…
But like many of the greats, Dead Prez are yet to out-do their classic debut album, 'Let's Get Free'. 'Dead Man's Shoes', as much of an edutaining and 'roots' hip-hop record this is, unfortunately seems to echo Nas and Damian Marley's collaborative project, 'Distant Relatives'.

This is definitely worth the listen, though. Let's hope that some of the more influential heads in the scene re-introduce these two back into hip-hop's main stage.

Audio: Pusha T Feat. Tyler, The Creator - Trouble On My Mind [Produced By The Neptunes]

Pusha T recruited Tyler, The Creator of Odd Future to guest on this track that will appear on Pusha's upcoming mixtape 'Fear Of God Part 2: Let Us Pray. Definitely feeling this three way link up, and I have to give props for what Tyler's doing, even if he is a carbon copy of NYC legend Rock of Heltah Skeltah.

Audio/Download: STACK$ & DIAMOND - LICKY LICKY

A lot of people are unaware of the fact that there are certain tracks that were MADE for the strip clubs. Everything about them stinks of the strip club essence and this is a track I think could make it out of the gutter and into the mainstream spotlight.. Obviously the sample on the hook could be an issue for the radio but we'll see!
Stack$ is an artist I've not heard much from but came into the game as the son of a multi millionaire (effectively with a blank cheque to make his album), and Diamond is a member of Atlanta crunk crew Crime Mobb who've been in the game a good few years... She definitely out does better than Stack$ on this but all round it's dope!

One of the tracks I really rate from this is this one that Wiley dropped a little while ago with Ed Sheeran on the hook. He flew out to Jamaica for a little break and shot the video while out there.

Video: Dot Rotten - I Want To Annoy (Produced By Diplo)

One of the greatest artists making their transition out of the underground continues his recent string of bangers with this. Recently signed to Mercury Records it seems Dot could be the next to take the spotlight.

Video Review: Marger - Shadows feat Molly (don't be fooled by the 1st minute!)

I can confidently say there's two songs within 'Shadows'. One by  Marger and one by Molly. One is 5/5 and one's definitely not! I sense there's been some label activity behind the scenes here, with two very different fan bases being exposed to opposing ends of the electronic music spectrum!

Production by Marger's long time beat supplier Sibling is way stronger on the dubstep/grime section and on first listens the singer's opening section made me feel a bit queezy!! On the one minute mark however the track turns inside out and Marger saves it with furiously sick delivery, flow and lyrical content, almost reminiscent of Dizzee at his best.

The way the track switched is nothing like I've heard since Bohemian Rhapsody, and sounded like a teenage grime fan had just swapped his little sister's Ministry of Sound compilation CD for his own.

Brand new instrumental video for the forthcoming FunkinEven track 'Rolands Jam' taken from the 'Rolands Jam' EP, produced entirely By FunkinEven, who's one Alex Nut's Eglo Records. If I had to put this in a genre I'd say future garage (whatever that is). The track's dope tho!

Wiley becomes the third UK artist to drop a mixtape with DJ Whoo Kid, but this is the one we've all been waiting for! First it was Tinie Tempah late last year, then Skepta dropped Community Payback (which was pretty sick). Now it's Wiley turn and he's got Chelsea and England defender Ashley Cole to host it alongside the G Unit DJ. Footballers aren't exactly known for their charismatic hosting skills so this could go either way! Eitherway, shoutout to Whoo Kid for supporting a UK legend.

Kinetik (Grand Central) - The Grace Of God

As one half of the UK hip hop duo Grand Central, Kinetik, alongside his rhyme partner Mr. Drastick, filmed this video for an unapologetic and profound track that details the highs and lows of growing up in a Christian household.

Kinetik tackles the hypocritical system of organised religion but at the same time gives a balanced view based on his first hand experiences, something that too many MCs fail to do.

I caught a video with Kinetic and Mr Drastik a little while back outside the Jazz Cafe in Camden Town:

Video: Bigz - I Just Want The Paper Remix Ft Chipmunk, SAS, G Frsh, Sincere & Smiler

All star line up from some of the sickest names from the North London hip hop scene. Biggie's legacy continues to live on as Bigz, one of Sway's long time affiliates brings it back to life, and definitely has a similar sound to what Biggie brought. His new mixtape Quantum Leap out now. Download here for free.

Dream Mclean ft Ceaser - Golden (Official Video)

Inner city tales as the Essex lyricist works his way thru the Docklands area of East London. Feeling the consistency Dream's bringing at the moment. The track is complimented by a strong hook from Ceaser a new name in my scope but someone I'll keep an eye/ear out for!

Audio: Trae Tha Truth Ft Big Boi, Wale, Lupe Fiasco, Wiz Khalifa & MDMA - I'm O...

Ironically, this new one from Trae the Truth's new record is released on independence (from the UK) day, and features (another) sample of Mark Morrison's classic British R&B joint 'Return of the mack' from 1996. I'm guessing this was sampled by producer 'Cy Fyre The Producer' a result of Mann and Snoop's latest JR Rotem produced hit 'The Mack', where Iyaz re-sings the UK star's recognizable hook...

Shout out to Wale who drops the line "Smokin weed outta london they bringin me fish and chips", which is presumably a reference to Mark Morrison's city!

Video: MURKAGE - BONFIRE

Part rap, part punk, part raver, Murkage's raw electronic sound is built from spending nearly a decade putting on some of the best parties Manchester has ever seen. As part of Murkage Cartel, a chimera like cabal of DJs, writers, artists and other nocturnal creatures, the band’s DIY contribution to the cities underground culture defies easy categorization.

[Video: LADY LESHURR - LOOK AT ME NOW [remix]

The net video drops for the Birmingham FeMC's version of the recent hit from Busta, Chris Brown and Wayne. Really liking what she does over this, especially with the double time bars which definitely in the same league as Busta's verses on the original! Leshurr's currently in a group with fellow UK female front runners Lioness and Amplify Dot...

As you can see, her team's taken the project a long way from this, the original recording in one of many bedroom recordings of her freshly cooked tracks...

Video: AKS - House Called Home

Emerging South London emcee AKS, unveils the official video for “House Called Home”, taken from his debut EP release The Bus Stop.Making use of some strategically placed censorship bars; the Robin Bharaj directed visuals see AKS immersed in a world of people without an identity.

Chillingly kicking off with an exert from Enoch Powell’s politically controversial “Rivers of Blood” speech, the Chemo-produced track explores AKS’ take on attitudes towards immigration, his identity as a British-Born African and a sense of belonging.
